Close friends and partners at FireWorks Security, Joel Weston and Kieran Ross know each other’s strengths and weaknesses. They have each other’s backs, make a formidable team, and carefully ignore their volatile chemistry.

When Kieran struggles with the aftermath of an assignment gone wrong, Joel is there to help. When Joel is caught in an explosion, Kieran jumps into a burning marina to rescue the man who means so much to him. But they never discuss what’s closest to their hearts, not prepared to risk their friendship for the mere possibility of something more.

Faced with bombs, assassins, and old ghosts, Joel and Kieran must find out why they’re targets, who is coming after them, and—most of all—how each would feel if he lost the other. Should they continue as best friends, or is it time to take a leap of faith?

Leap of Faith is the first story in Jackie Keswick's FireWorks Security series. This series is set around FireWorks Security and this story set the background of the firm and characters. This story started out full speed with lots of characters and action, so much so that I thought I missed a beginning part of the story to understand what was going on. Partners/co-workers/friends Joel and Kieran had met up for lunch with fellow co-workers/friends to help Kieran get out of his head from their last mission. When Joel and Kieran are walking away from the restaurant, they hear yelling and run to investigate. And then kidnapping, yachts blowing up, a lot of chaos, and rescuing happen. Joel's seriously injured and Kieran saves his life. Joel's hospitalized until someone shows up looking for them, and with Joel's doctors help they're able to escape. Only it's not that easy. Joel gets to the safe house, but Kieran doesn't and finds himself in danger. Until he's rescued and taken to the safe house to recover from his injuries.

The relationship between the two main characters in this story was very much on the backburner for much of the story. Throughout, we knew that they were interested in the other, but nothing changed until the last 20% of the book and even that left me wanting for more. I would have loved more story once Joel and Kieran were honest about their feelings. And more story to close things that were just left open. We were given a little information here and there about things that happened in the past, but not enough to really understand what was going on.

I didn't feel that this book ended with a HEA or HFN, and the case was left without a conclusion. I'm very much a fan of HEA's for my books, I'm impatient that way. When I do find a series that takes multiple books to reach conclusions, I like to wait to read those books once all have been released. Maybe this series will follow Joel and Kieran's developing relationship and not move onto other characters in the firm, which would make sense based on this first book.

I think this series has a lot of promise and will check out the next book in the series.

Author Bio

Jackie Keswick was born behind the Iron Curtain with itchy feet, a bent for rocks and a recurring dream of stepping off a bus in the middle of nowhere to go home. She's worked in a hospital and as the only girl with 52 men on an oil rig, spent a winter in Moscow and a summer in Iceland and finally settled in the country of her dreams with her dream team: a husband, a cat, a tandem, a hammer and a laptop.

Jackie loves unexpected reunions and second chances, and men who don't follow the rules when those rules are stupid. She blogs about English history and food, has a thing for green eyes, and is a great believer in making up soundtracks for everything, including her characters and the cat.

And she still hasn't found the place where the bus stops.
